National Robotarium at Heriot-Watt

Michael Laird Architects are delighted to have been selected to design the National Robotarium at Heriot-Watt. This will be a new, purpose-built research facility with the vision to be ‘the UK’s leading innovation Hub for the practical application of robotics and autonomous systems’.

The National Robotarium builds on our varied experience of creating research, laboratory and workplace facilities in the tech and life-sciences sectors. These include recent clients such as Cirrus Logic, Diageo, and Scottish Enterprise and the Usher Institute at the Edinburgh BioQuarter. The project also draws on the education sector, with large flexible spaces such as those created at the Stirling Prize nominated City of Glasgow College.

Since our appointment, we have been busy working with HWU and the specialist research teams that will be based there to ensure that a variety of flexible and connected spaces are provided. These spaces will facilitate their work, grow their research activity and enhance the ability to ‘work globally’

An extremely exciting and dynamic project, we look forward to progressing the designs to the next stage.
