Adam is responsible for the detail design and delivery of projects within the practice. He graduated from Heriot Watt University in 2003 and completed his final year of education at KTH University in Stockholm. Adam joined the practice in 2003 and has since been involved in a range of projects providing a varied skill base.

Alexa joined the practice in 2016, bringing good sensibility for design and international experience in the delivery of projects. Her areas of expertise are commercial, residential and hospitality projects, with particular emphasis on concept design and detailing. Working closely with the design team on both architectural and interior projects, she pursues a holistic design approach. She has a passion for space planning, focusing on users’ perception of space, using the light, proportion, materials, and structure to create unique, memorable experiences.

Andrea graduated from Dundee School of Architecture with a Master of Architecture in 2014 and joined MLA in early 2017. Prior to that, she worked as a designer on a 3 month design and construction school project in rural Zambia, following working on various high-profile residential and mixed-use projects in Glasgow. In between her University degrees, she worked at international practices in both Japan and Australia.

Since joining MLA Andrea has worked on several projects throughout Edinburgh and Scotland, assisting with everything from the preliminary design stages of projects to the production of detailed design information.

Andrew first started with MLA in 2014 whilst studying part-time at Napier University, where he graduated in 2017. He spent a 2 year period with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, where he gained a wealth of experience working on a Higher Education Project.

Since returning to MLA, Andrew has been involved in various projects, such as The Robotarium for Heriot-Watt University and the re-purposing of Meldrum House to form a 166 bedroom luxury hotel, where he has provided technical support in the form of detail design and the production of construction information.

Following graduation from University of Seville in 2009, Carmen worked in a design-led practice that specialises in architectural conservation for housing & public buildings.
She then relocated to Edinburgh and joined MLA in 2016. Since then, she has been a valuable team member in several projects including the Boroughmuir House School Housing Scheme.
She has also been responsible for delivering concept and technical project information on various office fit out projects.

Connor joined MLA in early 2022, shortly after studying a Masters in 3D Design for Virtual Environments from Glasgow Caledonian University, graduating with Distinction. Within the team he produces 3D models, visualisations, and technical drawings for projects.

Prior to joining MLA, Connor worked in the industry for over 5 years as an Architectural Technologist as well as a freelance Visualisation Artist. He also assisted in teaching the BSc 3D Animation and Visualisation course at GCU.

Emma has prior experience within the practice as she completed her Part 1 with MLA in 2021. After finishing her degree in Malaysia, Fei worked for practices in Kuala Lumpur on residential, retail and masterplanning projects before moving to Glasgow to further her studies at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in 2008.

Fei joined MLA in August 2021 and prior to this, she worked for two large practices in Scotland gaining experience in a range of sectors – sports & leisure, housing, large-scale healthcare, defence and education. Immediately prior to joining MLA, Fei completed a large higher education project for the University of Glasgow, which has recently won multiple awards.

Gillian has over 30 years experience working in interiors, specifically workplace, across most business sectors. She joined MLA in 2015, as a Director in the Glasgow office, after working for a number of other practices, most notably BDG architecture + design, haa design and DEGW. While at DEGW Gillian was introduced to Workplace and Building consultancy in which she developed a keen interest and specialism.

She believes that buildings and interiors should be designed around people, and as designers we should engage with a variety of people throughout the design process. This way we will achieve beautiful and meaningful buildings which delight, inspire and endure.

Jacqueline is a registered Architect and a graduate of the Mackintosh School of Architecture. She spent time working in both the public and private sector before moving into Health and Safety and achieving the NEBOSH Construction Certificate in 2014. Jelena obtained her Masters degree in Advanced Architectural Design (RIBA) from The University of Strathclyde and completed her Bachelors Degree in Architectural Technology (CIAT) at The University of Derby.

Prior to joining MLA in 2023, Jelena gained experience as an assistant as well as a project lead in the UK on variety of projects including later living schemes and hospitality, and in the U.A.E where she was working on a 5-star Hilton Family Resort project on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Jonathan joined the team at Michael Laird Architects in early 2022. He is a graduate of the University of Dundee with a Masters in Architecture. After graduating, he spent ten years working as a graphic designer, architect and landscape architect in several offices in Malaysia and Singapore, and has completed projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. He aims to reconcile his work in landscape design and architecture throughout his projects, with an emphasis on an ecological and sustainable approach.

Kenny is responsible for the design and delivery of a diverse range of building and interior projects within the practice. He first joined Michael Laird Architects as a year-out student in 1989 and, apart from a period in the mid nineties working in Sydney, Australia on major hotel and hospitality projects, has been associated with the practice ever since.

Lauren graduated from Dundee University in 2017 and joined MLA in late 2020. Prior to that, she worked in the Hospitality Design sector, gaining valuable experience in projects of various scales, including bars and restaurants. Mark joined the practice in 2009 after graduating from the University of Strathclyde with a postgraduate diploma in advanced architectural design. After completing his professional studies, he qualified as an Architect in 2012. During his time at MLA, he has gained considerable experience in the design and delivery of various building types from commercial refurbishments and residential developments to large scale education projects.

In the past few years, Mark has been based in Glasgow working as part of a joint team with Reiach and Hall Architects, delivering the City of Glasgow Colleges project consisting of both its’, Riverside and City campuses. Michael joined the team at MLA in early 2018. He is a graduate of the University of Dundee with a Masters in Architecture and has previously worked in practices both in Scotland and Australia. He has wide ranging project experience in the residential and public sectors and also commercial works. Michael also ran his own practice for several years working on various low energy housing and extension projects.

Prior to starting with MLA, Michael furthered his knowledge in ecological and sustainable design whilst working at a small local practice. During this time was involved in projects utilising ecological materials, considering their impacts on the buildings and its occupants along with reducing energy demand on both refurbished and new build dwellings. Work included the development and completion of in a new build residential Passivhaus in Scotland. Michael brings this wide range of experience to the team, currently working on residential projects such as Musselburgh development.

Nicola graduated from Durham University in 1991 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) with Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC). After working for GE Capital, she set up her own financial consultancy company with one of her main clients being The Edinburgh Clinic and moderating for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland.

Nicola joined MLA in November 2016 as Finance Manager, and became Finance Director in April 2021. As well as ensuring good financial control, she aims to develop the use of Project Accounting in our practice.

A graduate of Aberdeen in 2004, Sandy joined MLA in May 2007 and qualified as an architect later that year. He was promoted to Associate in 2012 and Project Director in 2020.

His professional experience covers a variety of project sizes and types including regeneration, educational, commercial and residential projects. Within these, he has played a key role in successful project bids and has been responsible for the production of planning applications, tender and works packages and assisted with numerous feasibility studies and masterplans.

Stevie has joined MLA to open and develop the Manchester office. Since graduating, she has worked in the UK, Isle of Man and Australia and has developed a diverse skillset from a range of sectors including commercial, workplace, higher education, research & development, life sciences and heritage. She has a planning and listed building background alongside new build CAT-A fitouts as well as refurbish/repurposing of existing buildings for an extensive list of clients. Stuart joined MLA in 1996 after working for a renowned architectural practice in Sydney, Australia. He became a Director in 2009 and is currently based in our Glasgow office.

Alice has recently relocated back to Scotland having spent the last ten years working in Architecture and Urban Design in Perth, Western Australia.

Upon graduating, Alice gained experience working on the London 2012 Olympics and has since been fortunate enough to be in involved in a variety of projects that have been varied in their scale, stages of work as well as their permanence. With a portfolio that majors on public buildings and tertiary education facilities, Alice is enthusiastic about design that starts from a human rationale and is just as enthused about the practical nature of construction as the theory that underpins the overall design.

Andrew joined Michael Laird Architects in May 2022 having gained diverse industry experience since graduating with an MArch in 2018 from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Anthony joined the MLA Edinburgh team in 2012 after graduating from the Mackintosh School of Architecture with a Masters from the Urban Design Lab. After a period working with PagePark Architects in Glasgow he took up his new role at MLA Glasgow in 2019.

Emilia joined the MLA team in January 2022 as an Office Administrator. Evelyn graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a degree in Interior Design in 2008 and joined MLA in 2021. Prior to joining she managed large scale staff moves on behalf of blue chip commercial clients. She recently managed and delivered the successful relocation of 1700 staff from 6 sites into one. This followed on from working in workplace design with a leading furniture supplier and prior to that she also had experience working on domestic architecture and interior design projects in and around Glasgow.

Since joining MLA she has been working with the design teams on several workplace projects to provide clear change support to enable our clients, their staff, and their buildings to adapt to the new ways of working that we are all now embracing.

Jeremy Scott is the Chairman and Head of Design with Michael Laird Architects and has overall responsibility for the design of all projects within the practice. Jeremy graduated from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, with a first class honours degree. He has been responsible for the design and delivery of many award-winning schemes throughput Scotland and the UK. Jeremy has particular expertise in masterplanning, community engagement, mixed use urban regeneration, commercial and residential projects with a keen understanding of not only the importance of design but also the commercial requirements of all projects. As a result, Jeremy has become the designer of choice for many of Scotland’s leading developers.

Content marketing specialist Kay is a Business Studies graduate and post-graduate of the University of Stirling. Although a native of Scotland, Kay spent the first ten years of her career in London working for Harrods.
A further ten years in total was spent living and working in the Middle East. She returned to Scotland permanently in 2015, joining MLA in 2024.
Her experience in marketing covers numerous industries including textiles, interiors and commercial furniture.

Kim-Marie joined MLA in March 2020 as an Interior Designer with over 10 years’ experience in the industry. Kim-Marie graduated from the University of Dundee with a Masters in Architecture. She also managed to squeeze in a marketing career. After several years working her way up to a Senior marketing position, Kim-Marie made the decision to leave for an Interior Design post and joined Keppie Design in 2015.

Since joining MLA Kim-Marie has been responsible for the day to day running and management of projects including production of design and technical information.

Lewis joined the MLA team in November 2018, just after graduating in Interior & Environmental Design at Dundee University in May that year.

Since joining the practice, Lewis has been able to focus on his design passions. He has assisted on 3D visualisations and design intent work. He has also produced 3D models from Sketchup and worked on interior design solutions – as well as producing proposal documents and graphics for projects.

Luca first joined MLA at the start of 2012 after graduating from University of Dundee with a Master’s degree with Distinction. During his time at MLA, Luca spent three years working abroad in Toronto, Canada for Quadrangle Architects. Upon his return to Scotland, Luca took up his new role at MLA in 2018 where he continued to work on a wide range of project types within the office; including commercial, educational and residential developments across the U.K. and overseas.

Luca is responsible for the delivery of number of projects within the practice but his focus and talents lie in his creativity and his vast knowledge of architectural design. He is a passionate designer and has cultivated a unique position for himself where he can utilise his creative skills for the clients of MLA. Mariana is the Sustainable Design Lead at MLA. She obtained a DipArch qualification in 2012 from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Prior to joining MLA in 2014, she was an architectural graduate at Ailtireacht in Dublin, where she was involved in a variety of small-scale, high-end residential projects.

Mariana has experience with a wide range of project types, having worked on the design and delivery of Sport facilities, Specialised Research buildings, Commercial Offices, and award-winning Conservation.

She has been instrumental in establishing MLA’s Green Group and, since taking her current role in 2021 she has been developing MLA’s sustainable and regenerative design strategy. Her work with individual project teams focuses on reducing operational energy demand, embodied carbon emissions and resource use whilst enhancing the health and wellbeing of building users, local communities, and wider ecosystems. In 2022, Mariana became a qualified Passivhaus Designer.

Merve graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2014 with a Master of Science in Architectural and Urban Design. Prior to that, she worked in the Hospitality Design sector, gaining valuable experience in projects of various scales, including bars and restaurants. Alejandro joined Michael Laird Architects in the autumn of 2018. Alice has recently relocated back to Scotland having spent the last ten years working in Architecture and Urban Design in Perth, Western Australia.

With a portfolio that majors on public buildings and tertiary education facilities, Alice is enthusiastic about design that starts from a human rationale and is just as enthused about the practical nature of construction as the theory that underpins the overall design.

Andrew first started with MLA in 2014 whilst studying part-time at Napier University, where he graduated in 2017. He spent a 2 year period with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, where he gained a wealth of experience working on a Higher Education Project.

Jeremy Scott is the Chairman and Head of Design with Michael Laird Architects and has overall responsibility for the design of all projects within the practice. Jeremy graduated from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, with a first class honours degree. She has been instrumental in establishing MLA’s Green Group and, since taking her current role in 2021 she has been developing MLA’s sustainable and regenerative design strategy. Michael joined the team at MLA in early 2018. He is a graduate of the University of Dundee with a Masters in Architecture and has previously worked in practices both in Scotland and Australia. He has wide ranging project experience in the residential and public sectors and also commercial works. Michael also ran his own practice for several years working on various low energy housing and extension projects.

Prior to starting with MLA, Michael furthered his knowledge in ecological and sustainable design whilst working at a small local practice. During this time was involved in projects utilising ecological materials, considering their impacts on the buildings and its occupants along with reducing energy demand on both refurbished and new build dwellings. Work included the development and completion of in a new build residential Passivhaus in Scotland. Michael brings this wide range of experience to the team, currently working on residential projects such as Musselburgh development.

Nicola graduated from Durham University in 1991 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) with Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC). Michael joined the team at MLA in early 2018. He is a graduate of the University of Dundee with a Masters in Architecture and has previously worked in practices both in Scotland and Australia. He has wide ranging project experience in the residential and public sectors and also commercial works. Michael also ran his own practice for several years working on various low energy housing and extension projects.

Prior to starting with MLA, Michael furthered his knowledge in ecological and sustainable design whilst working at a small local practice. During this time was involved in projects utilising ecological materials, considering their impacts on the buildings and its occupants along with reducing energy demand on both refurbished and new build dwellings. Work included the development and completion of in a new build residential Passivhaus in Scotland. Michael brings this wide range of experience to the team, currently working on residential projects such as Musselburgh development.

A graduate of Aberdeen in 2004, Sandy joined MLA in May 2007 and qualified as an architect later that year. He was promoted to Associate in 2012 and Project Director in 2020.

His professional experience covers a variety of project sizes and types including regeneration, educational, commercial and residential projects. Within these, he has played a key role in successful project bids and has been responsible for the production of planning applications, tender and works packages and assisted with numerous feasibility studies and masterplans.

Stuart joined as Associate at MLA in 2017 after setting up and running a successful Architectural Studio in both Glasgow and Edinburgh for 11 years. After graduating from the University of Strathclyde with a First-Class Honours degree and Masters Degree with Distinction he worked on a wide range of projects on various scales for private, public and commercial clients in the UK and overseas.

Stuart is responsible for the delivery of a number of projects within the office with a particular focus on creativity and design. He has a holistic design approach and prides himself on maintaining excellent client relationships. He has a strong passion for the understanding and successful implementation of project briefs regardless of size or type.

Adam is responsible for the detail design and delivery of projects within the practice. He graduated from Heriot Watt University in 2003 and completed his final year of education at KTH University in Stockholm. Adam joined the practice in 2003 and has since been involved in a range of projects providing a varied skill base.

Gillian has over 30 years experience working in interiors, specifically workplace, across most business sectors. She joined MLA in 2015, as a Director in the Glasgow office, after working for a number of other practices, most notably BDG architecture + design, haa design and DEGW. While at DEGW Gillian was introduced to Workplace and Building consultancy in which she developed a keen interest and specialism.

She believes that buildings and interiors should be designed around people, and as designers we should engage with a variety of people throughout the design process. This way we will achieve beautiful and meaningful buildings which delight, inspire and endure.

Hazel joined the team early in 2012 with 4 years of experience in the leisure and residential sectors. She has also led projects through the planning and building warrant processes, produced tender and construction packages and have run both architectural and interior projects on site. Hazel was made a Director in 2020.

Kenny is responsible for the design and delivery of a diverse range of building and interior projects within the practice. He first joined Michael Laird Architects as a year-out student in 1989 and, apart from a period in the mid nineties working in Sydney, Australia on major hotel and hospitality projects, has been associated with the practice ever since.

Kenny was appointed Associate in 1999 and became a Director in 2009.

Stevie has joined MLA to open and develop the Manchester office. Since graduating, she has worked in the UK, Isle of Man and Australia and has developed a diverse skillset from a range of sectors including commercial, workplace, higher education, research & development, life sciences and heritage. She has a planning and listed building background alongside new build CAT-A fitouts as well as refurbish/repurposing of existing buildings for an extensive list of clients. After years of business development and strategic growth of her previous practice, she has a clear understanding of the Manchester and Northwest markets which will help aid the success of the newly formed MLA office in Manchester.

Tim Griffin is CEO of Michael Laird Architects and is responsible for the running & management of the business. A graduate of Heriot Watt University in 1998, Tim joined the practice in 1999 following a year out in New Zealand. He has been involved in a range of projects since joining the firm providing Tim with varied skill base. An Associate since 2006, Tim became a Director in 2009 and CEO in 2020.
Tim has significant experience managing large project teams and helping to develop the project brief through client engagement. His experience covers a wide sector of projects from complex refurbishments to new build commercial developments. This variety has helped Tim to develop knowledge of best practice in both design & construction.

A Graduate of The University of Edinburgh with two Masters degrees, Garth has strengths in architectural conservation, urban masterplanning, BIM and contemporary sustainable design with many of his recent projects winning awards.

Gordon joined the team as an Associate in 2017 with over 10 years of experience in the industry. He graduated from Glasgow School of Art and has since worked in practice on multiple Architectural and Interior projects, both nationally and internationally. He is an Interior Designer, Job Runner and Workplace Consultant, bringing a wealth of knowledge, and design expertise from his broad experience across various sectors- particularly workplace and healthcare. Promoted to Director in 2020, Gordon is passionate about workplace strategy and has helped shape the vision and briefing for many of his clients.

Jeremy Scott is the Chairman and Head of Design with Michael Laird Architects and has overall responsibility for the design of all projects within the practice. Jeremy graduated from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, with a first class honours degree. He has been responsible for the design and delivery of many award-winning schemes throughput Scotland and the UK. Jeremy has particular expertise in masterplanning, community engagement, mixed use urban regeneration, commercial and residential projects with a keen understanding of not only the importance of design but also the commercial requirements of all projects. As a result, Jeremy has become the designer of choice for many of Scotland’s leading developers.

Nicola graduated from Durham University in 1991 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) with Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC). After working for GE Capital, she set up her own financial consultancy company with one of her main clients being The Edinburgh Clinic and moderating for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland.

Nicola joined MLA in November 2016 as Finance Manager, and became Finance Director in April 2021. As well as ensuring good financial control, she aims to develop the use of Project Accounting in our practice.
