Sustainability
Sustainability is at the core of everything that Michael Laird Architects do. Whether it is a feasibility study, a masterplan or a simple element of specification sustainability is always considered.
Consideration is given at all stages of our design process to:
- reducing carbon emissions
- reducing energy usage
- using renewable energy sources
- whole life costing
- embodied energy
- specification of sustainable materials
- the social and cultural effects of our projects.
The aim on all of our projects is to obtain an excellent or very good accreditation in BREEAM, Eco Homes or any other relevant assessment method. As a business we are striving towards being carbon neutral.
On all of our building projects we aim to maximise the recycling of existing building materials, there cycling of waste on site and the specification of materials that can be recycled or reused in the future. Our aim is to create buildings for all our clients that are as sustainable as possible, that are more efficient to operate and that avoid increasing the capital cost.
