The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Edinburgh
Michael Laird Architects collaborated with Simpson and Brown to design and execute interiors for the refurbishment of this Category A listed Georgian townhouse for The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
The project is a sensitive blending of contemporary elements with those of a traditional New Town property. Simple but strong devices are used to create a memorable interior: a high oak-clad bar counter is paired with a wrap-around oak back bar; in the lounge’s south- facing window, full antique whisky sample bottles are used to great effect, allowing light to filter through the different hues.
The dining room is on the ground floor; the bar and tasting room are on the main floor above, along with a small library.
