Gogar Park House, Edinburgh

Gogar Park House is a world class business, conference and meeting room venue, in a Category C(S) listed Victorian villa situated within Gogar Park, the secluded 24-acre site situated to the east of the Royal Bank of Scotland World Headquarters Campus at Gogarburn.

Following a major fire in January 2003 it was decided to restore the building to provide a business, conference and meeting destination to support the main campus.

The external envelope of the building has been completely restored, including extensive stonework repairs and a new roof over the main part of the house.

Although almost all internal features were lost in the fire, intensive work went into the recreation of the pencheck stair and original entrance hall cupola.

Within the principal ground floor room a chimneypiece carved from rare butternut timber was salvaged and carefully restored and reinstated. This feature is complemented by the introduction of timber panelling to the bay window, plaster cornice and a ceiling centre piece, carefully chosen using established conjectural restoration methods.

The project was completed in 2005.
