ABC Nightclub, Glasgow

This concert venue and nightclub development on Sauchiehall Street brings an old Glasgow picture house back to life – the ABC Regal. It is Scotland’s longest established live music promoter Regular Music’s first venue and was launched in June 2005.

MLA worked closely with the Client to develop designs for two completely different music venues on separate floors together with four bar areas including VIP and Mezzanine bars, the main entrance lobby, artists’ dressing rooms and back of house accommodation.

The design for the larger venue – ABC1 – can accommodate up to 1200 people and it also, allegedly, sports the world’s largest glitterball hung high in the exposed steel trusses of the original Victorian picture house.

The smaller and more intimate venue – ABC2 – accommodates up to 350 people and, with a separate chill out bar facing on to Sauchiehall Street, the ABC on Sauchiehall Street has proved to be a very versatile concert and nightclub venue and continues to be a great success.

“The ABC itself is a superb addition to the facilities in Style-City. The main auditorium is blessed with great sound and sightlines, the bars and toilet provision generous. It is big enough to feel important and small enough to feel intimate”.

“Queen of clubs: the ABC’s redesign represents a playful juxtaposition of original features and bold modern touches.”
