Holiday Cottages, Gairlochy, Highlands
Gairlochy is a small village located at the confluence of the Caledonian Canal and Loch Lochy. Our site is located on a large island bounded by the Loch to the east, the canal to the north and the River Lochy around the south and west. The character of the area is mountainous and rural.
Our proposal is the creation of two high quality holiday cottages inside the grounds of Ardlussa House, a 19th century lock keeper’s cottage which overlooks the Caledonian Canal. Our proposal is highly sensitive to the site conditions, seeking to restore the setting of Ardlussa House and retain the history of the scattered buildings within its boundary. Our cottages will be situated to the rear of the property, allowing the house to dominate the site, whilst taking advantage of the spectacular views across the valley towards the Nevis mountain range. The existing site boundary wall will be utilised as a spatial divider to define private spaces and tie the cottages back to the landscape.
