The Haymarket, Competition
One of Edinburgh’s last remaining city centre sites requires a unique solution to unlock the urban and development potential. The scheme is based on the traditional patterns of streets and courts to organise the public realm and built form.
The approach allows a dense development to be created with all the public spaces being pedestrian-friendly and all vehicle movement relegated to the undercroft areas. The main focus of the scheme, a pedestrian boulevard, would facilitate public participation with office, retail and residential, all accessed from the main spine. The focal structure located towards Haymarket Station would provide a dramatic marker for entry into the city centre.
The scheme would provide approximately 500,000 sqft of accommodation.
